She is American and comes from a Mexican-American background. From a young age, her desire to be involved in sports was evident. Gerina started playing golf at the age of fifteen. Gerina was a graduate of Goddard High School. She was the winner of her place in the New Mexico State Golf Tournament during her time in high school.
